Beloved, I realize that life can be complicated, noisy, unwaveringly busy, and overwhelming. Yet it is in the midst of such constant life. turmoil that we as Christians must find time to focus on Scripture so that we can distinguish God’s voice from the clamor around us.
Psalms 119:15-16 AMP says “I will meditate on Your precepts And [thoughtfully] regard Your ways [the path of life established by Your precepts]. I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”
Another benefit of meditating on God’s Word is outlined in Psalm 1:1-3
Psalms 1:1-3 AMP – Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night.
And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season;
Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].
You see, meditation is different from a cursory reading of Scripture. We absorb the truth into our very being by asking questions such as:
What did this teach me about God’s character and purposes
What did this mean to the people to whom it was originally written?
How do I apply this scripture to my life?
Is there anything I need to change?
God our Father gave us the practice of meditation so that we might better know Him and relate to Him.
When we are alone with the Lord and quiet before Him, we are better able to listen and focus. It may be for five minutes; it may be for thirty minutes; it may be for an hour.
The important thing is that we experience God’s presence and deliberately seek His direction and purpose for our lives as we meditate on His Word.
NOW LET US PRAY
Holy God, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Give us the grace to help us to be disciplined enough to meditate on Your Word and precepts. Draw us closer to You, Lord. Holy Spirit, enlighten us and open our eyes and minds to Your will when we meditate. Abide with us at all times. Lead, guide and direct us to the center of Your will. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen .
Have a blessed day
