The Bible, particularly in Proverbs 13:20, emphasizes the importance of associating with wise people and warns against the negative consequences of being around fools.
Proverbs 13:20-22 AMP hints us that those who walks with the wise will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm”.
”He who walks [as a companion] with wise men will be wise,
But the companions of [conceited, dull-witted] fools [are fools themselves and] will experience harm. [Is 32:6]
Adversity pursues sinners,
But the [consistently] upright will be rewarded with prosperity.
A good man (wise man) leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for [the hands of] the righteous.”
Also Isaiah 32:6 AMP asserts that:
”For the fool speaks nonsense, And his heart (mind) plans wickedness:
To practice ungodliness and to speak error concerning the Lord,
To keep the craving of the hungry unsatisfied And to deprive the thirsty of drink.”
These scriptures suggests that proximity to wise individuals can lead to positive influence and wisdom, while association with the foolish can result in negative outcomes.
The verses are a central teaching on the impact of our companions.
It highlights the importance of choosing our friends and mentors wisely, as their influence can shape our character and choices.

The company of fools can lead to harm and suffering.

The example of Judas, who walked with Jesus but ultimately fell into sin, illustrates that simply being around wise people is not enough.
It requires actively learning from and seeking their guidance.

The Bible also encourages us to “walk in wisdom,” which means to make wise choices and live in a way that honors God and reflects his character.
This includes choosing our companions carefully and seeking their guidance.
Making the wrong choice of companions can make or break a person’s destiny as plan by God. This is why the Word of God points out these warnings.
