IS GOD IN CONTROL?
This is a valid question to ask by believers as well as non-believers, who from experiencing and observing human pain, adversities, misfortune and accidents saying: Are these painful circumstances simply beyond our control and also presumably out of God’s control as well? Can God control and care of His creations?
The implicit assumption in the minds of many is: If God is both powerful and good, why is there so much suffering, so much pain, so much heartache in the world? God is either good and not all powerful, or He is powerful and not all good. You can’t have it both ways.
I submit to you that we serve a God who, in His Providence is both powerful and good. The Bible teaches us we do have it both ways. God is sovereign (all-powerful), and He is good, Especially when we hurt.
What exactly is God’s Providence?
Theologian J. I. Packer defines providence as, “The unceasing activity of the Creator whereby, in overflowing bounty and goodwill, He upholds His creatures in ordered existence, guides and governs all events, circumstances, and free acts of angels and men, and directs everything to its appointed goal, for His own glory.”
Note the absolute terms Packer uses: “unceasing activity,” “all events … all acts,” “directs everything.”
Jerry Bridges defined God’s Providence as: His constant care for and His absolute rule over all His creation for His own glory and the good of His people.
Again, emphasis on : constant care, absolute rule, all creation. Nothing, not even the smallest virus, escapes God’s care and control.
The twofold objective of God’s providence are:
His own glory and
The good of His people.
These two objectives are always in harmony with each other.
God never pursues His glory at the expense of the good of His people, nor does He ever seek our good at the expense of His glory.
God has designed His eternal purpose so that His glory and our good are inextricably bound together. What comfort and encouragement this should be to us.
Matthew 10:29-31 AMP tells us “Are not two little sparrows sold for a copper coin? And yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered [for the Father is sovereign and has complete knowledge]. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.”

If we are going to learn to trust God in adversity, we must believe that just as certainly as God will allow nothing to subvert His glory, so He will allow nothing to spoil the good He is working out in us and for us. HE IS IN CONTROL!
Also, God sustains His creations.
Scripture says, “The Son is … sustaining all things by his powerful word” (Hebrews 1:3), and “in him all things hold together”
Colossians 1:17 AMP tells us “And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. [His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.]”
He Governs His Creation
The book of Daniel says, “[He] is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes” (4:17)
Yes! GOD IS IN CONTROL!
