Beloved, us Christians have certain expectations of God’s goodness and blessings in our lives. It is easy to trust God when things are going well for us and for our family. However, life is unpredictable. Bad things happen to good people.
There are no easy answers to the difficult problems of adversity and suffering. When life hurts, the adversity is difficult even when we know God is in control of our circumstances. In fact, that knowledge sometimes tends to aggravate the pain.”
Some may ask pointed questions in the middle of their pain:
If God is in control,” we ask, “why did He allow this to happen?
Does God actually control the circumstances of our lives, or do “bad” things just happen to us because we live in a sin-sick world?
If God really does control the circumstances of our lives, why did He allow my friend’s little girl to get cancer?
Can I truly trust God when the going gets tough in different areas of my life?
Is God truly sovereign?
We will explore the biblical answers to these questions and learn how to trust God even when we hurt in this devotional series.
The Word have God promises for us concerning trusting God.
Psalms 112:6-7 AMP tells us “He will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever. He will not fear bad news; His heart is steadfast, trusting [confidently relying on and believing] in the Lord.”
Isaiah 26:3 AMP says “You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].”
Isaiah 26:4 AMP instruct us to “Trust [confidently] in the Lord forever [He is your fortress, your shield, your banner], For the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].”
NOW LET US PRAY
Merciful God, thank You for the promises that we have in You, Lord. Thank You for the hope that we have in putting our trust in You even when life hurts. I pray that You will use these devotionals to help us grow closer to You. Father, glorify Yourself in our circumstances even when life hurts. In Jesus’ Mighty name I pray. Amen
