Beloved, there are some declarations from the Psalmist that invites us to the truth that it is better to take refuge in the Lord, than put our trust in any man (or woman).
Let us explore Psalm 118:5-14 to further understand these declarations.
“Out of my distress I called on the Lord; The Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can [mere] man do to me? [Heb 13:6]
The Lord is on my side, He is among those who help me; Therefore I will look [in triumph] on those who hate me.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord Than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord Than to trust in princes.
Taking refuge in the Lord is nothing but divine wisdom because other humans are imperfect and they will fail us.
Yes, the arm of flesh will fail you. Why? Because as humans, we are fickle, weak, and self-serving. We have a natural tendency to look out for our own interests. Outside of God, no man can help another. It is God who wills in us to do of His good pleasure. He is the one who holds the hearts of kings in His palms and turns them to whichever direction pleases Him.
Psalms 146:3-4 AMP “Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation (help). When his spirit leaves him, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts and plans perish. [1 Cor 2:6]”
Psalms 118:5-14 AMP emboldened us that
“All nations encompassed me; In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off. They encompassed me, yes, they surrounded me [on every side]; In the name of the Lord I will cut them off.
They swarmed around me like bees; They flare up and are extinguished like a fire of thorns; In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off. [Deut 1:44] You [my enemy] pushed me violently so that I was falling, But the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.”
LET US PRAY
Father in heaven, thank You for giving us yet another day in life. Thank You that we can take refuge in You, Lord, rather than trust in man. Thank You that even when we are surrounded by nations of enemies on all sides, we will surely cut them off in the mighty name of the Lord according to Your Word. Abide with us today and protect us from all evils. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray. Amen
Have a blessed day
