The Bible portrays Satan as a cunning adversary who employs different types of strategic schemes to hinder, deceive, and weaken believers’ faith in God’s goodness and truth.
1 Peter 5:8 NIV encourages…
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Satan’s key strategies include Deception or lies, Distortion of scripture to cause doubts, discouragement, fear, division, tempting with worldly pleasures, and fostering pride or doubt.
DECEPTION AND LIES
Satan’s main strategy is lying into believer’s mind.
As the “father of lies,” Satan twists the truth and questions God’s Word and integrity to shake believers’ trust.
Speaking to those who refused to believe Him, Jesus said in John 8:44
“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
– John 8:44 NIV
DOUBT
Through the distortion of God’s Word, Satan plants questions to make you distrust
God’s Word and His goodness. Satan introduces doubt into minds of believers just like he did Eve in the garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:1 NIV says..
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
DISCOURAGEMENT
Satan magnifies believers struggles to drain hope and weaken faith to introduce discouragement into our minds.
The Psalmist encourages in Psalms 42:11 NIV
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
DIVERSION AND DISTRACTION
Satan lures and distracts believers toward what fades (spiritually unimportant things ) so you neglect what lasts forever (Spiritually important and eternal).
1 John 2:15-17 NIV instructs…
“Do not love the world or anything in the world.
If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
DEFEAT
Satan convince believers that our efforts are useless, lying into our minds to quit before the harvest, giving up on God’s blessings and destiny.
Galatians 6:9 NIV encourages…
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
DELAY
Satan tempts believers to postpone obedience to God’s Word or leading until the opportunity is lost.
Proverbs 27:1 NIV warns..
“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
