Beloved, In honor of the Advent (Christmas, a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ), we will explore the divine reasons why Jesus was born this week.
TO DO THE WILL OF GOD THE FATHER
In the beginning was the God head (God the Father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit)
Jesus is God the son. He was the chosen one.
Jesus said in John 6:38 that “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.”
And in Hebrews 10:7 “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”
TO SAVE SINNERS
When humanity disobeyed God in the garden of Eden, sin entered the world. Out of His love for His creations, God devised the plan to save humanity from sin.
1 Timothy 1:15 says “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”
Hebrews 9:26 tells us “for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
TO BRING LIGHT TO A DARK WORLD
We can all admit that the world in itself is dark. Jesus is light.
In John 1:9 , John the Baptist said “There it was—the true Light [the genuine, perfect, steadfast Light] which, coming into the world, enlightens everyone.”
In John 12:46, Jesus said, “I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”
John 15:22 tells us “If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.”
TO BE MADE LIKE HIS PEOPLE.
Hebrews 2:14-17 says “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroythe one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect,so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”
TO BEAR WITNESS TO THE TRUTH
Jesus is the bearer of witness to the truth.
John 18:37 says “Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.””
TO DESTROY THE DEVIL AND HIS WORKS
Jesus has the power to destroy the one who has the power of death which is the devil according to John 10:10.
Hebrews 2:14 says “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil…”
1 John 3:8 tells us “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”
NOW LET US PRAY
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving us enough to come into the world to save us sinners.
Thank You for bearing witness to truth.
Thank You for being a light in this dark world.
Thank You for showing us an example of doing God’s will.
Thank You for coming to destroy the work of of the devil.
All glory and adoration to Your Holy name.
Abide with us at all times Lord. In Jesus Christ’s most precious name I pray. Amen
