TO GIVE HIS LIFE AS A RANSOME FOR MANY
Jesus Christ’s life was one of sacrifice and to pay ransom to set humanity free from the the bondage of sin from the hand of the devil.
”For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
”….waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” Titus 2:13-14
TO FULFILL THE LAW AND PROPHETS.
In several places in the Old Testament, there was the law and prophecies spoken of a coming savior.
(Isaiah 9:6) tells us “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”
”For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matthew 5:17
TO REVEAL GOD’S LOVE FOR SINNERS.
God’s love for lost sinners was evident in Jesus coming into the world.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
TO CALL SINNERS TO REPENTANCE
Luke 5:32 is one of several key mission statements in the Gospel of Luke. In these statements, Jesus is described as: Calling the lost to repentance, Separating the repentant from the resistant, and Judging the resistant.
”I did not come to call the [self-proclaimed] righteous [who see no need to repent], but sinners to repentance [to change their old way of thinking, to turn from sin and to seek God and His righteousness].” – Luke 5:32 AMP
”And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17
TO DIE
”Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour.” John 12:24-27
TO SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST
The primary reason Jesus came was to locate the lost and save them.
” And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him,“Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:5, 9-10
TO SERVE
Christ points out that this is exactly the life He has been living among them. Using the title He often applied to Himself, He says the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve others.
”For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
TO BRING PEACE TO THE WORLD
“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.” Ephesians 2:14-18
