In Matthew 27:17, 21-22 AMP , we are toldโ€ฆ

So when they had assembled [for this purpose], Pilate said to them, โ€œWhom do you want me to set free for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?โ€

The governor said to them, โ€œWhich of the two do you wish me to set free for you?โ€ And they said, โ€œBarabbas.โ€ Pilate said to them,

โ€œThen what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?โ€ They all replied, โ€œLet Him be crucified!โ€โ€

Jesus is reported to have made seven statements from the cross, each conveying a unique message related to forgiveness, salvation, love, anguish, suffering, victory, and surrender.

Matthew 27:46 tells us that:

โ€about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, โ€œEloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?โ€ which means, โ€œMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?โ€

Here, Jesus was expressing His feelings of abandonment as God placed the sins of the world on Himโ€”and because of that, God had to โ€œturn awayโ€ from Jesus.

As Jesus was feeling that weight of sin, He was experiencing a separation from God for the only time in all of eternity.

This was also a fulfillment of the prophetic statement in Psalm 22:1.

Psalms 22:1 AMP

โ€My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?โ€

Luke 23:34 AMP tells usโ€ฆ

โ€And Jesus was saying, โ€œFather, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.โ€ And they cast lots, dividing His clothes among themselves. [Ps 22:18]โ€

Those who crucified Jesus were not aware of the full scope of what they were doing because they did not recognize Him as the Messiah.

While their ignorance of divine truth did not mean they deserved forgiveness, Christโ€™s prayer in the midst of their mocking Him is an expression and example of the limitless compassion of divine grace.

Luke 23:43 AMP tells usโ€ฆ

โ€Jesus said to him, โ€œI assure you and most solemnly say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.โ€

In this passage, Jesus is assuring one of the criminals on the cross that when he died, he would be with Jesus in heaven.

This was granted because even at the hour of his death, the criminal had expressed his faith in Jesus, recognizing Him for who He was.

Luke 23:42 AMP saysโ€ฆ

โ€And he was saying, โ€œJesus, [please] remember me when You come into Your kingdom!โ€โ€

John 19:28-29 AMP tells usโ€ฆ

โ€After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said in fulfillment of the Scripture, โ€œI am thirsty.โ€

A jar full of sour wine was placed there; so they put a sponge soaked in the sour wine on [a branch of] hyssop and held it to His mouth.โ€œ

This statement, spoken while physically suffering from the cross, is also a reference to the biblical prophecy of the suffering Messiah.

John 19:26-27 AMP tells usโ€ฆ

โ€So Jesus, seeing His mother, and the disciple whom He loved (esteemed) standing near, said to His mother, โ€œ[Dear] woman, look, [here is] your son!โ€ Then He said to the disciple (John),

โ€œLook! [here is] your mother [protect and provide for her]!โ€ From that hour the disciple took her into his own home.โ€

When Jesus saw His mother standing near the cross with the Apostle John, whom He loved, He committed His motherโ€™s care into Johnโ€™s hands. And from that hour John took her unto his own home (John 19:26-27).

In this verse Jesus, ever the compassionate Son, is making sure His earthly mother is taken care of after He leaves the earth.

#6 ๐ˆ๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐!

John 19:30 AMP tells usโ€ฆ

โ€ When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, โ€œIt is finished!โ€ And He bowed His head and [voluntarily] gave up His spirit.โ€

This statement signifies the completion of Jesusโ€™s mission and his sacrifice for the redemption of humanity.

๐Ÿ“Œ#7 ๐…๐š๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ, ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐จ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ก๐š๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐ˆ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ ๐Œ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ญ!

Luke 23:46 AMP tells usโ€ฆ

โ€œAnd Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, โ€œFather, into Your hands I commit My spirit!โ€ Having said this, He breathed His last.โ€

Here, Jesus is willingly giving up His soul into the Fatherโ€™s hands, indicating that He was about to die โ€ and that God had accepted His sacrifice.

He โ€œoffered up Himself unblemished to Godโ€ (Hebrews 9:14).

This statement represents Jesusโ€™ complete surrender to Godโ€™s will and His final act of trust as He passes away.
