It is a vulnerable moment just after the Last Supper when Jesus has told His closest friends on earth (His disciples)what would soon happen to Him โ€” the painful betrayal He would endure from one of them, and His coming arrest, torture, and crucifixion.

๐Ÿ“ŒJesusโ€™ betrayal by Judas and arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane is Chronicled in:

๐Ÿ“’Read Matthew 26:17-75, or Mark 14:12-72, or Luke 22:7-62, and John 13:1-38)

After Jesus had the ๐‹๐š๐ฌ๐ญ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ with His disciples, The Bible recounts much the same in Mark 14:32, where that Gospel account also notes Jesus took Peter, James, and John with Him โ€œto a place called Gethsemane,โ€ where He prayed in deep distress, overwhelmed about what was to come. went to the garden of Gethsemane.

๐Ÿ“ŒIn the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus experienced immense anguish and prayed to God, seeking a way out of his impending suffering.

Hereโ€™s a more detailed look at the events:

Jesus was betrayed by Judas and arrested by soldiers led by Judas, who identified him with a kiss.

๐Ÿ“’The Gospels note that Jesus told His disciples to โ€œsit here while I prayโ€ (Mark 14:32).

He acknowledged His sadness, asking them to keep watch, as โ€œMy soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of deathโ€ (14:34).

He walked a bit farther from them, sank to His knees, and cried out to His Father, God. โ€œโ€˜Abba, Father,โ€™ He said, โ€˜everything is possible for You. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what You willโ€™โ€ (14:36).

This was no casual prayer โ€” Jesus was distraught. Matthewโ€™s Gospel tells us โ€œHe fell with His face to the groundโ€ (Matthew 26:39) as He prayed with all His might.

While Jesus was praying, his disciples Peter, James, and John, who had been tasked with keeping watch, fell asleep.

Jesus, knowing the suffering he would face, prayed to God, expressing his desire to be spared if possible. However, he ultimately submitted to Godโ€™s will, even though it meant his death on the cross.

Judas, one of Jesusโ€™ disciples, betrayed him by leading soldiers to the garden and identifying him with a kiss.

Jesus was arrested, and his disciples scattered and fled, fulfilling Jesusโ€™ prediction.

Just then, Judas, one of Jesusโ€™s twelve disciples, arrived with a large crowd armed with swords and clubs.

With a kiss, Judas betrayed Jesus, and the Son of God was seized and arrested (Mark 14:43-46).

One of Jesusโ€™s disciples โ€” John says it is Peter โ€” attempts to defend Jesus, drawing his sword and slicing off the ear of Malthus, the servant of the high priest (John 18:10).

But after His all-night agony of sorrow and prayer, Jesus knew what needed to happen. He would have no violence or resistance.

๐Ÿ“’Jesus answered, โ€˜No more of this!โ€™ And He touched the manโ€™s ear and healed himโ€ (Luke 22:51).

Then, He went with the crowd willingly. At that, as Jesus had predicted, โ€œAll the disciples deserted Him and fledโ€ (Matthew 26:56).
