I read a write up by Kay Arthur, she wrote: Because we are frail, imperfect human beings, we are sometimes envious of others. But God’s Word warns us that envy is sin. We must guard ourselves against the natural tendency to feel resentment and jealousy when other folks experience good fortune. It’s worth noting that as believers, we have absolutely no reason to be envious of any people on earth., After all, as Christians we are already recipients of the greatest gift in all creation: God’s grace. We have been promised the gift of eternal life through God’s precious only possession begotten Son, and we must count that as our most precious gift.
So here’s a simple suggestion that is guaranteed to bring you happiness, contentment, and a good night’s sleep: fill your heart with Goď’s love, God’s promises, and God’s Son. When you do, you’ll leave no room in your heart for envy, hatred, bitterness, or regret.
In 1 Peter 2:1-3, we instructed to;
put aside every trace of malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander and hateful speech; like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment], if in fact you have [already] tasted the goodness and gracious kindness of the Lord. [Ps 34:8]
Also, we are promised in Philippians 4:19, that God will meet ALL our needs… “And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
If we take God at His Word and trust God to supply our needs, we have no need to be envious of anyone.
LET US PRAY
Dear Lord, help us to recognize that envy is of the enemy. Whenever he puts envy in us, please redirect our thoughts to the blessings we have received from You. I pray that remember Your promises that You will meet our needs according to Your purposes. Help us to be thankful Christians. Father, deliver us from the spirit of envy. In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen
