Do you know what thwart means? It means to be twisted or wrenched around or messed up or squashed. God’s plans cannot fail, and nobody can stop Him from accomplishing His will.
God’s plans and purposes for each of us are unique and the Bible is very clear on the truths that God is sovereign and no one can mess up His plans and His purposes cannot be thwarted.
Job 42:1-2 NIV says “Then Job replied to the Lord: “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”
As human beings, we sometimes experience interruption and thwarted plans. We aren’t able to make everything go the way we plan. We are not all-powerful and all-knowing. But we can be glad that God is. We can rejoice that God is sovereign and that He does whatever He pleases. He is in control of what happens in our lives – and not only that, but He cares about what happens in our lives. There are many promises in the Bible that speak of how God intends to do things for His glory and for our good. He knows the plans that He has, and we can know for sure that no one and nothing can hold Him back from carrying them out.
God’s purposes can never be messed up, and we can trust Him to do whatever He sets out to do.
I encourage everyone to spend time to meditate on these verses as well…
“The Lord foils the plans of the nations [the wicked]; He thwarts the purposes of the [wicked] peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations.” (Ps. 33:10,11)
“O Lord, God of our fathers, are You not the God who is in Heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can withstand You.” (2 Chron. 20:6)
“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Prov. 19:21)
“The Lord works out everything for His own ends –even the wicked for a day of disaster.” (Prov. 16:4)
“There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.” (Prov. 21:30)
LET US PRAY
Sovereign God, thank You for this day. Lord, thank you that no plans or purposes of Yours can be thwarted. Lord, I glorify Your name for Your sovereignty in my life. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen
