We read an account in the Bible where Jesus calmed a literal storm on the Sea of Galilee. This account is an event recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, where his disciples were in fear and awoke him. Jesus rebuked the wind and waves, causing them to become completely calm, and then questioned his disciples about their lack of faith.

Mark 4:35-41 AMP tells us the story of how Jesus commanded the storm.
βOn that [same] day, when evening had come, He said to them, βLet us go over to the other side [of the Sea of Galilee].β
So leaving the crowd, they took Him with them, just as He was, in the boat. And other boats were with Him.
And a fierce windstorm began to blow, and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already being swamped.
But Jesus was in the stern, asleep [with His head] on the [sailorβs leather] cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, βTeacher, do You not care that we are about to die?β
And He got up and [sternly] rebuked the wind and said to the sea, βHush, be still (muzzled)!β meaning βPeace be stillβ
And the wind died down [as if it had grown weary] and there was [at once] a great calm [a perfect peacefulness].
Jesus said to them, βWhy are you afraid? Do you still have no faith and confidence [in Me]?β They were filled with great fear, and said to each other, βWho then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?β
This miracle is a lesson for us believers about Jesus’ power over our life’s “storms” and we are to to trust in him despite any fears that we may experience.
The disciples learned significant lessons that day that transformed their lives. We can also learn much from their experience as we face the storms of our own lives.
Sometimes storms can cause much damage and wreak havoc in the lives of many.
While the news focuses on environmental storms, there are other storms just as devastating that believers experience every day, such as sickness, financial hardship, and broken relationships.
These storms of life threaten our peace, comfort, and joy, and often bring about fear, doubt, and hopelessness.

Jesus words are powerful and He can speak into the storms in our lives just as He did the storm in Galilee.
Mark 4:39 AMP tells us
βAnd He got up and [sternly] rebuked the wind and said to the sea, βHush, be still (muzzled)!β And the wind died down [as if it had grown weary] and there was [at once] a great calm [a perfect peacefulness].β

Jesus promised in John 14:27 AMPβ¦
βPeace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]β

Jesusβ disciples had to wait for Him while He slept in the boat during the storm at the Sea of Galilee.
Psalms 27:14 AMP encourages us to wait on the Lordβ¦
βWait for and confidently expect the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for and confidently expect the Lord.β

God uses storms in the lives of believers for His purposes.
2 Corinthians 4:17 AMP tells usβ¦
βFor our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]!β
