Believers in Jesus Christ are called to be His disciples so that our lives will bring eternal Glory to God.
God created us in His own image and likeness, He also created us with free will. We have the freedom to choose life or death. To walk under obedience to either our own desires or the desires of Jesus Christ.
WHAT IS “SELF” ?
Oxford Advance Learner’s Dictionary defines it as an attitude of seeking one’s own advantage or pleasure rather than that of others.
Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary defines it as one who is dominated by self-interest and inconsiderate of others, arrogantly asserting his or her own will.
WHAT IS DYING TO SELF?
Dying to self means denying an attitude of self-seeking and egoism. It is putting God as a hero in our lives by making ourselves a zero. We are to count ourselves dead to sin and all fleshly passion and live for Jesus Christ.
Dying to self and living under the Lordship of Christ is foundational for anyone who made the decision to surrender their life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.(aka Being Born Again)
Romans 6:11-14 AMP says
“Even so, consider yourselves to be dead to sin [and your relationship to it broken], but alive to God [in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts and passions.
Do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness.
But offer yourselves to God [in a decisive act] as those alive [raised] from the dead [to a new life], and your members [all of your abilities—sanctified, set apart] as instruments of righteousness [yielded] to God.
For sin will no longer be a master over you, since you are not under Law [as slaves], but under [unmerited] grace [as recipients of God’s favor and mercy].”
SO, WHAT DOES DYING TO SELF LOOK LIKE?
When you are forgotten, or neglected, or purposely reduced to nothing and you don’t sting, get angry and hurt with the insult or the oversight, but your heart is happy, being counted worthy to suffer for Christ, THAT IS DYING TO SELF.
When your good is evil spoken of, when your wishes are crossed. your advice disregarded, your opinions ridiculed, and you refuse to let anger rise in your heart, or even defend yourself.
but you take it all in patient, loving silence, THAT IS DYING TO SELF.
When you lovingly and patiently bear any disorder, any irregularity, and impunctuality, or any annoyance; when you can stand face-to-face with waste, folly, extravagance, spiritual insensibility .. and endure it as Jesus endured it,THAT IS DYING TO SELF.
When you are content with any food. any offering, any raiment. any climate, any society, any solitude, any interruption by the will of God. THAT IS DYING TO SELF.
When you no longer care to hear yourself in conversation, or to record your own good works. or itch after commendation, when you can truly love to be unknown. THAT IS DYING TO SELF.
When you can see your brother prosper and have his needs met, and can honestly rejoice with him in spirit and feel no envy nor question God, while your own needs are far greater and in desperate circumstance, THAT IS DYING TO SELF.
When you can receive correction and reproof from one of less stature than yourself, and can humbly submit inwardly as well as outwardly, finding no rebellion or resentment rising up within your heart.THAT IS DYING TO SELF.

LET US PRAY
Loving Father, we come to give You all the glory that belongs to You. Thank You for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to die to self so that we desire to seek to please You. In so doing we can die to self for Your glory. Lord, abide with us today and protect us, our children and loved ones from the wickedness of the wicked. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen
