Beloved, in order to develop biblical convictions…
We have to immerse our self in studying the Bible,
Seeking to understand its meaning (not just read) and
Apply the principles to our life, while
Relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to interpret scripture and shape our beliefs.
This means ultimately basing our convictions on the authority of God’s Word rather than personal opinions or societal norms; this includes…
Prayerfully considering different perspectives and
Being open to adjusting our understanding as we grow in our faith.
I would like to highlight some points to remember:
Deep Bible study requires for us to:
Regularly read and meditate on scripture,
Paying attention to context and seeking to understand the overall message.
Humility and prayer which requires:
Approach the Bible with a humble attitude, willing to learn.
Asking God to reveal His truth to us through prayer.
Seek guidance from the Holy Spirit:
Believe that the Holy Spirit can illuminate your understanding of scripture and convict you of sin.
Consider the whole counsel of God:
We Don’t cherry-pick verses to support our pre-existing beliefs, but study the Bible holistically.
We must apply scripture to our life:
Reflect on how biblical teachings should impact your daily decisions and actions.
Engage in Christian community:
Where we can discuss our understanding of scripture with other mature believers and seek their input.
Potential challenges to consider as we seek for conviction:
Personal bias: Be aware of our own biases and strive to interpret scripture objectively.
Cultural influence: Distinguish between biblical truths and cultural norms that may not align with scripture.
Misinterpretation: Seek clarification from trusted pastors, commentaries or scholars when encountering complex passages.
We should make Scripture the cornerstone of our thinking.
Once we know what the Lord says, we have a choice:
To believe Him and commit to living according to our convictions, or continue being tossed by waves of doubt:
James 1:6 tells us “But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind.”
By rooting ourself in God’s Word, we can be called one of His trees of righteousness (Isa. 61:3).
”To grant to those who mourn in Zion the following: To give them a turban instead of dust [on their heads, a sign of mourning], The oil of joy instead of mourning, The garment [expressive] of praise instead of a disheartened spirit. So they will be called the trees of righteousness [strong and magnificent, distinguished for integrity, justice, and right standing with God], The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
Isaiah 61:3 AMP
