When one is at war with another, they make themselves enemy of that person.
Romans 8:7-8 (GNBUK- Good News Bible UK) tells us
“And so people become enemies of God when they are controlled by their human nature; for they do not obey God’s law, and in fact they cannot obey it. Those who obey their human nature cannot please God.”
THIS 
scripture is telling us that PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO OBEY THEIR OWN HUMAN NATURE CANNOT PLEASE GOD.
Scripture also tells us in Colossians 1:21 (GNBUK)
“At one time you were far away from God and were his enemies because of the evil things you did and thought. But now, by means of the physical death of his Son, God has made you his friends, in order to bring you, holy, pure, and faultless, into his presence.”
This means that we, apart from Christ, are enemies of God. That is probably a bit shocking, and it should be! The amazing truth is that “while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of (Jesus)” (Romans 5:10)
God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble, so says James (4:6), but the Greek word for opposed is “to rage in battle with” or to “be at war with” so if you read James 4:6 for the way it reads in the Greek, it says: “God is at war with the proud”
NO ONE WANTS TO BE AN ENEMY OF GOD.
Yet, if we are full of pride, we want to do what pleases us (the flesh), we are at war with God, we are more like Satan than God because Satan’s pride caused him to rebel against God and our hearts are wicked if we live a life of pride.
LET US PRAY
Merciful God, we do not want to be Your enemies. We want to please You, Lord. I pray that You would help us to be humble and have the desire to choose to please You. We need Your spirit in us to empower us to walk in humility and obedience to Your ways. By so doing, we are not at war with You. In Jesus’Mighty name, I pray. Amen
