How Jesus Handled Harmful People When He Was On Earth – By Iwalola(Lola) Ademodi

Jesus was compassionate – but He was not passive, enabling, or self- abandoning. He was focused and dedicated to His purposes.

Boundaries are biblical. Distance can be holy. Walking away from harm is wisdom that protects our hearts from being embittered.

📌JESUS SET BOUNDARIES

Jesus withdrew from those who sought to harm Him.

Matthew 12:14-15 AMP tells us how he handled those who conspired to destroy Him.

“But the Pharisees went out and conspired against Him, discussing how they could destroy Him. Being aware of this, Jesus left there. Many followed Him, and He healed all of them [who were sick],”

Beloved, notice Jesus continued to do the will of God (healing all who were sick) even though He was aware of the wickedness being plotted against Him.

We have an example in how Jesus Christ responded to those who hated Him enough to plot His destruction.

📌JESUS SPOKE TRUTH WITHOUT SOFTENING IT

He confronted hypocrisy directly. He was not intimidated by lies. He exposed them.

In Matthew 23:27-28 AMP, as He observed the scribes and Pharisees spewing lies of self righteousness to people. Jesus said…

👉🏾“Woe to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!

👉🏾For you are like whitewashed tombs which look beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean.

👉🏾So you, also, outwardly seem to be just and upright to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

📌 JESUS REFUSED TO ARGUE WITH MANIPULATORS

Jesus did not engage with questions asked in bad faith, knowing their intentions.

In Luke 20:8 AMP, knowing that He was being asked questions just to trip Him…

“Then Jesus said to them, “Nor am I telling you by what [kind of] authority I do these things.””

📌JESUS WALKED AWAY FROM HARDENED HEARTS

When people refused truth, He did not force access, nor try to make them listen to Him with their unbelief.

In Matthew 13:57-58 AMP, we read…

“And they took offense at Him [refusing to believe in Him]. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” And He did not do many miracles there [in Nazareth] because of their unbelief.”

📌JESUS PROTECTED THE VULNERABLE

Jesus exposed abuse of power and defended those who were harmed.

John 8:7 AMP tells us how Jesus saved a woman caught in adulterous sin…

“However, when they persisted in questioning Him, He straightened up and said, “He who is without [any] sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

📌JESUS DID NOT CONFUSE FORGIVENESS WITH ACCESS

Jesus forgave, but He did not trust everyone. In fact He stayed away from those whose actions and behaviors could distract Him from His mission and purposes.

John 2:24-25 AMP explains

“But Jesus, for His part, did not entrust Himself to them, because He knew all people [and understood the superficiality and fickleness of human nature], and He did not need anyone to testify concerning man [and human nature], for He Himself knew what was in man [in their hearts—in the very core of their being].”

📌JESUS CHOSE OBEDIENCE OVER APPROVAL

Jesus allowed people to walk away rather than compromise truth.

Philippians 2:9 AMP tells us…

“For this reason also [because He obeyed and so completely humbled Himself], God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,”
