We live in a world where everyone is self-focused about their own needs. Those who are helpless are often neglected, mocked and look down upon. But God wants His followers to help the helpless among us.
In Psalm 82:4 we read a request to “Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.”
The heart of God is with the helpless. Helping the helpless was a trait of Jesus’ earthly ministry. Therefore, those of us who are true followers of Jesus Christ are admonished to follow Jesus’ example of helping the helpless. We honor God whenever we help the needy.
Proverbs 14:31 warned that “He who oppresses the poor taunts and insults his Maker, But he who is kind and merciful and gracious to the needy honors Him.
As believers, we help the helpless solely to glorify and honor our Heavenly Father.
Psalms 41:1-3 AMP outlines God’s promises to those among us who help the helpless. God is not blind.
blessed [by God’s grace and compassion] is the person who considers the helpless;
The Lord will save him in the day of trouble.
The Lord will protect him and keep him alive;
And he will be called blessed in the land;
God does not hand him over to the desire of his enemies.
The Lord will sustain and strengthen him on his sickbed; In his illness,
God will restore him to health.”
LET US PRAY.
Heavenly Father, thank You for bring us to this day. Lord, give us the mind of Christ so that we are compassionate toward those who are helpless. Deliver us from wicked spirits. Lord, rescue those among us who are helpless. Thank You for giving us Your strength when we are helpless. In Jesus’ matchless name I pray. Amen
