What is a guardrail? For those among us who do not live in the western world or in countries where guardrails are commonly used, especially on the roads; a guardrail is a rail that prevents people from falling off (a cliff) or being hit by something. In North America, it is a strong fence at the side of a road or in the middle of an expressway, intended to reduce the risk of serious accidents.
Like a guardrail, God’s Word and commands protect us and prevent us from falling off the proverbial “cliff” of life when we obey them. God’s Word helps us to navigate the terrain of this treacherous world.
Jesus compared those who act on His words to a house build on a rock – a solid foundation that can not be moved by storms. He said in Matthew 7:24-27 AMP;
“So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man]who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish (stupid) man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great and complete was its fall.”
We are also told about the plight of those who delight in the law of the Lord in Psalm 1:1-4 (AMP) that says…
“Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. The wicked [those who live in disobedience to God’s law] are not so, But they are like the chaff [worthless and without substance] which the wind blows away.”
God blessed and guided Abraham’s footsteps and generations because he obeyed God’s commands. (Genesis 22: 17-18)
LET US PRAY
Father in heaven, thank You for loving us enough to give us Your commands as guardrails to guide us through life. We give You glory for Your love. Lord, sometimes obeying Your commands could be difficult in this sin-sick world. Therefore, we need Your help. We submit ourselves to You so that The Holy Spirit will empower us in our efforts to obey Your commands and stay within Your guardrails. In the name of Jesus Christ, we have prayed. Amen
Have a blessed day
