~ GOD WILL HELP YOU WHEN YOU ARE LONELY
The dictionary defines loneliness as sadness due to the lack of a friend or companion. It is a state that could be painful for those who are lonely because they feel a sense of not belonging.
God created us for companionship and community. It is natural to feel a sense of loneliness when we find ourselves without company for a span of time. Sometimes, loneliness could be due to rejection by others or the loss of a loved one. Loneliness is not the same as being alone, which could be solitude.
Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, endured extreme loneliness at times. He was well-acquainted with the pain of rejection. He understands loneliness.
We are told in Isaiah 53:3 AMP that “He was despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and pain and acquainted with grief; And like One from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or esteem Him.”
Jesus’s loneliness reached its apex the moment he became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21) on the cross and was “forsaken” by his Father (Matthew 27:46).
Jesus doesn’t just understand our loneliness; he’s destroying it. Because he died on our behalf, we are no longer truly a stranger or alien, but we are fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s family. Because Jesus was alienated from God and man, we will enjoy the full family fellowship of God and all of his redeemed saints forever.
Ephesians 2:19 AMP tells us”So then you are no longer strangers and aliens [outsiders without rights of citizenship], but you are fellow citizens with the saints (God’s people), and are [members] of God’s household,”
Jesus promised to be with us and never forsake us.
Hebrews 13:5 AMP. “…He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!”
God’s presence rids us of loneliness and comforts us.
Psalms 23:4 AMP “Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me.”
Our advocate is the Holy Spirit, our helper, who is always with us so that we are never alone.
Jesus said in John 14:16-17 AMP “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.”
Personally, I confess that I enjoy being alone in solitude in the presence of the Holy Spirit. I enjoy sweet fellowship with Him. It rejuvenates me spiritually, and it is in His presence that He reveals His will to me concerning His desires for me and His assignments for me.
I encourage those among us who experience loneliness to practice the presence of God the Holy Spirit. He will help you overcome loneliness.
NOW LET US PRAY
Heavenly Father, we need the promise of Emmanuel [God with us] today. We need to know You are with us. Help those among us who feel lonely. They may feel like they don’t have any friends. They may feel like their family doesn’t understand them. They feel like they have no one to turn to. In those moments, remind them to turn to You and to Your son, Jesus, who came to earth because You wanted to be close to us. In Christ, we know You are always near. You don’t go anywhere. When we are all alone, we can cry out to You , and You will hear us because You are always close by. And because of Jesus, You understand us.
Thank You for the comfort we have in that promise.In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen
