~ YOU ARE A CITIZEN OF HEAVEN!
Beloved, when you give your life to Jesus, you become a citizen of Heaven. We are no longer the same as we were. This is the eternal life that is promised in John 3:16
When we say that, “our citizenship is in heaven.” This does not mean simply that we get to go to heaven after we die. Rather, it means that we are to live on this earth according to the values of heaven. We are committed to the agenda of the one who is sovereign in heaven, the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jehovah God Himself. In all we do, we are to seek God’s justice and mercy, for God’s purposes and glory.
Philippians 3:20-21 AMP tells us “But [we are different, because] our citizenship is in heaven. And from there we eagerly await [the coming of] the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who, by exerting that power which enables Him even to subject everything to Himself, will [not only] transform [but completely refashion] our earthly bodies so that they will be like His glorious resurrected body.”
Of course, one day, we will all have a body that is new for the life in Heaven, but right now, we are accepted in the brethren of Heaven. I wish that more people know their birthright as a child of Heaven. I wish more people knew that they were seated with Christ in Heavenly places.
We are also told in Ephesians 2:6 AMP “And He raised us up together with Him [when we believed], and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, [because we are] in Christ Jesus,”
God is a good God and we are walking like a person with a limp when we do not know our identity in Christ. Jesus wants us all to know who we are and I hope and pray that this devotional series has encouraged you and reveal some of your identity as a believer in Christ.
Our loyalty to heaven and to our Lord is something we live out right now, each day, in real, earthly time. In everything we do, we seek to honor God and advance his kingdom agenda on earth.
In case you’re concerned that I’m making this up, let me remind you of how Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Jesus wants us to ask for the coming of God’s kingdom, both now and in the future.
Moreover, right now, we are to ask for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. How is God’s will done on earth? Mostly, it is done by those on earth who are citizens of heaven, whose allegiance is to the Lord of lords. In other words, it’s done by you and me as we live out our heavenly citizenship right here and now.
NOW LET US PRAY
Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity to explore our identity in Christ. Thank You for making the provision for us to have our citizenship in heaven. Thank You for letting Your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven. Lord, give us the grace to live our lives here on earth as it is in heaven with heavenly virtues in our hearts and minds. Abide with us today in our going and coming. In Jesus Christ marvelous name I have prayed. Amen
