You may have heard the saying that we are all at different stages at any given time in our lives regarding the “storms of life”. You are either in the middle of a storm, or you just came out of one, or a storm is about to hit you. That’s just life, however, are you prepared?. God, our creator is very much aware of the state of humanity in regards to the storms of life. Therefore, He made all provisions for us to be prepared for the storms of life because of His immense love for us.
Our part is to act on His provisions through obedience to His Word. In His love God gave us Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” So you ask, How do we get the peace Jesus is talking about? The answer is we must be prepared for the storms of life.
To prepare for the storms of life, we must learn to:
- Stop worrying and TRUST God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is ever faithful and He does not change. In the middle of chaos and confusion of a storm, Jesus is our steady anchor. We must learn how to choose to fight the battle of the mind that leads us to worrying instead of trusting God.
According to 2 Timothy 2: 13 (ERV) “If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful, because he cannot be false to himself.” He will do what He said he will do. In addition, we read in Numbers 23:19 (ERV) “God is not a man; he will not lie. God is not a human being; his decisions will not change. If he says he will do something, then he will do it. If he makes a promise, then he will do what he promised. - Get into the Word of God and speak out the promises of God. There is power in speaking the Word of God. We must remind ourselves of what God said about us and our circumstances. Proverbs 18:21 states “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”.
- Focus on Jesus Christ, the only one who can calm the storms. Read Mark 4:35-41. Specifically in Mark 4:39 “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” We must learn to focus on Him by worshipping and praising Him, as difficult as it may be when we are in the middle of a storm. The spirit of God inhabitants our praise and worship.
- Pray about the circumstances, learn to cry out to God and ask Him for wisdom and guidance. Let me remind you of apostle Paul’s encouragement in Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
We must be prepared my friends, I encourage you to get into these habits and by the grace and mercy of God, we can ride the waves of life’s storms instead of drowning.
