The fear of God is often misunderstood. It’s not about being terrified or living in constant dread of punishment.
Instead, the fear of God is a deep reverence and awe for his holiness power and authority.
The Bible describes the “fear of God” as a reverent awe and respect for God’s holiness and power, which is the beginning of wisdom and a motivation for living a righteous life.
Proverbs 1:7 AMP tells usโฆ
โThe [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.โ
Also, Psalms 111:10 AMP tells usโฆ
โThe [reverent] fear of the Lord is the beginning (the prerequisite, the absolute essential, the alphabet) of wisdom; A good understanding and a teachable heart are possessed by all those who do the will of the Lord; His praise endures forever.โ
It is not a cowering terror, but a profound understanding of God’s nature that leads to obedience, love, and a turning away from evil.
Reverence for God provides a strong sense of confidence and security, rather than the anxiety caused by worldly fears.
It is recognizing that he is the creator of the universe. And in his presence we stand in humility.
The fear of God is about honoring him with our lives, acknowledging that he is worthy of our worship and obedience.
It means recognizing that Godโs ways are higher than our ways and his wisdom surpasses our understanding.
When we fear God,
we trust in his goodness
and submit to his will knowing that his plans for us are better than anything, we could imagine.

The Bible teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
It is the foundation of living a life that pleases God the fear of God.
It leads a believer to choose to do what is right no matter what. (Righteousness).
The fear of the Lord Keeps us humble and aware of our dependence and need for him in our lives.
The fear of God fosters intimacy between us believers and our creator.
It helps us to resist temptation make wise choices and walk in integrity.
In essence the fear of God is about love and respect not terror.
It is a relationship built on trust, reverence and awe for the creator who knows us deeply and loves us unconditionally.

Most Holy God, thank You for loving us unconditionally.
Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit
Help us Holy Spirit to understand our parts in the fear of the Lord.
Help us to surrender our all to You so we can respond to Godโs love.
Lord, keep us humble in Your presence.
Abide with us Lord Jesus as we strife to abide in You.
