Beloved, life is filled with distractions. If care is not taken, we could be distracted from what matters the most. Our relationship with God, our creator.
To stay focused on God, in the midst of life distractions, scriptures tells us to:
actively set our mind on God and His will,
prioritize Godβs kingdom above earthly things, seeking a deeper relationship with Him through prayer and scripture,
and maintaining a posture of stillness and trust in His power and goodness.
WE MUST FOCUS OUR MINDS AND HEARTS
We must set our minds on things above.
Colossians 3:1-2 AMP tells usβ¦
βTherefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead],
keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].β
We must keep our minds stayed on God as we move through our day.
Isaiah 26:3 AMP
βYou will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on Youβin both inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].β
We must allow the Holy Spirit to transform our minds.
Romans 12:2
βAnd do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs],
but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes],
so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].β
We must prioritize God’s Will and choose obedience
Matthew 6:33 AMP commands usβ¦
βBut first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being rightβthe attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.β
We must cultivate a posture of trust and stillness
Psalms 46:10 AMP saysβ¦.
βBe still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.β
Psalms 16:8 AMP tells usβ¦
βI have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.β
We must serve God completely
Matthew 6:24 tells usβ¦
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other”
Here are some practical applications:
Pray continually: Maintain a constant connection with God through prayer.
Engage with Scripture: Make time to study the Bible to understand God’s word and will.
Surround yourself with believers: Seek out and spend time with other Christians who can encourage you in your faith
