As Jesus commands.
In Matthew 5:13, Jesus uses the analogy of “salt of the earth” to describe his followers.
Matthewโฌ โญ5โฌ:โญ13โฌ โญAMPโฌโฌ tells us;
โYou are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty?
It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people [when the walkways are wet and slippery].โ

This means that believers are meant to be a positive influence, adding flavor and preservation to the world, and not be inert or bland.
Just as salt preserves food, believers are called to preserve society by living out their faith and positively influencing others.
In fact, being referred to as โthe salt of the earth,โ Jesus is telling us we should be affecting our fellow humans with joy for life that comes from the Lord.
As salt affects food for flavor, believers in Christ should affect the world by the way we live and act toward one another.

Salt enhances the taste of food, and believers should enhance the world with their faith and actions, spreading good news and living out God’s principles.
It demands bringing out the good in people and situations, adjust them, not us to be adjusted by them.
Colossiansโฌ โญ4โฌ:โญ6โฌ โญAMPโฌโฌ
โ Let your speech at all times be gracious and pleasant, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how to answer each one [who questions you].โ

We are to live according to God’s standard based on His Word, demonstrating His character in your actions Romans 12:2).

Salt was used in ancient times to preserve food, and believers are called to preserve society from decay and corruption by living godly lives and spreading the message of salvation.
We are to preserve goodness by seeking to protect and uphold what is good and true, and beautiful in the world.
โญโญ1 Thessaloniansโฌ โญ5โฌ:โญ21โฌ โญAMPโฌโฌ
โ But test all things carefully [so you can recognize what is good]. Hold firmly to that which is good.โ
We are to show fairness and righteousness in our interactions with others, treating everyone with respect and dignity.
Jeremiahโฌ โญ22โฌ:โญ3โฌ โญAMPโฌโฌ says:
โ Thus says the Lord, โExecute justice and righteousness, and rescue the one who has been robbed from the hand of his oppressor. And do no wrong; do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.โ

๐๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ง๐๐:
Believers should be a positive force in their communities, demonstrating love, compassion, and justice, and actively participating in spreading the message of God’s love.
We must actively share our love and compassion to others.
We must be willing to forgive others when they have wronged us as Christ forgave our sins.
We are to show empathy, kindness and concern for others
Ephesiansโฌ โญ4โฌ:โญ32โฌ โญAMPโฌโฌ tells us;
โBe kind and helpful to one another, tender-hearted [compassionate, understanding], forgiving one another [readily and freely], just as God in Christ also forgave you.โ
Be honest and truthful in all areas of life, avoiding dishonesty, deception and corruption.
Ephesiansโฌ โญ4โฌ:โญ25โฌ โญAMPโฌโฌ
โTherefore, rejecting all falsehood [whether lying, defrauding, telling half-truths, spreading rumors, any such as these], speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are all parts of one another [and we are all parts of the body of Christ].โ

We are to show kindness and goodness even to our enemies.
Matthewโฌ โญ5โฌ:โญ44โฌ โญAMPโฌโฌ instructs
โ But I say to you, love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies and pray for those who persecute youโ

๐๐จ๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ:
Just as salt can lose its saltiness and become worthless, believers can lose their influence if they fail to live out their faith and spread God’s message.
We are to continue to help others through financial support, volunteering or simply lending a listening ear as much as we can.
We can function as the salt of the earth by living a life of integriry and truth, demonstrating God’s love, and working for the betterment of the society.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for entrusting us with the command for us to be the โsaltโ of the world
Holy Spirit, we need You to empower us to be the โsaltโ of world because we cannot do so on our own.
Father, only You can bring the best out of to influence our world for Your kingdom.
Lord, we commit our lives into Your protective care.
Jesus, shield us from the wickedness of the wicked.
Abide with us at all times, Father.
