Matthew 27:17, 21-22 AMP
So when they had assembled [for this purpose], Pilate said to them, โWhom do you want me to set free for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?โ
The governor said to them, โWhich of the two do you wish me to set free for you?โ And they said, โBarabbas.โ Pilate said to them,
โThen what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?โ They all replied, โLet Him be crucified!โโ

Jesus is reported to have made seven statements from the cross, each conveying a unique message related to forgiveness, salvation, love, anguish, suffering, victory, and surrender.

Matthew 27:46 tells us that:
โabout the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Here, Jesus was expressing His feelings of abandonment as God placed the sins of the world on Himโand because of that, God had to “turn away” from Jesus.
As Jesus was feeling that weight of sin, He was experiencing a separation from God for the only time in all of eternity.
This was also a fulfillment of the prophetic statement in Psalm 22:1.
Psalms 22:1 AMP
โMy God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?โ

Luke 23:34 AMP
โAnd Jesus was saying, โFather, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.โ And they cast lots, dividing His clothes among themselves. [Ps 22:18]โ
Those who crucified Jesus were not aware of the full scope of what they were doing because they did not recognize Him as the Messiah.
While their ignorance of divine truth did not mean they deserved forgiveness, Christ’s prayer in the midst of their mocking Him is an expression and example of the limitless compassion of divine grace.

Luke 23:43 AMP
โJesus said to him, โI assure you and most solemnly say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.โ
In this passage, Jesus is assuring one of the criminals on the cross that when he died, he would be with Jesus in heaven.
This was granted because even at the hour of his death, the criminal had expressed his faith in Jesus, recognizing Him for who He was.
Luke 23:42 AMP
โAnd he was saying, โJesus, [please] remember me when You come into Your kingdom!โโ

โAfter this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said in fulfillment of the Scripture, โI am thirsty.โ
A jar full of sour wine was placed there; so they put a sponge soaked in the sour wine on [a branch of] hyssop and held it to His mouth.โ

This statement, spoken while physically suffering from the cross, is also a reference to the biblical prophecy of the suffering Messiah.

โSo Jesus, seeing His mother, and the disciple whom He loved (esteemed) standing near, said to His mother, โ[Dear] woman, look, [here is] your son!โ Then He said to the disciple (John),
โLook! [here is] your mother [protect and provide for her]!โ From that hour the disciple took her into his own home.โ
โญโญ
When Jesus saw His mother standing near the cross with the Apostle John, whom He loved, He committed His mother’s care into John’s hands. And from that hour John took her unto his own home (John 19:26-27).
In this verse Jesus, ever the compassionate Son, is making sure His earthly mother is taken care of after He leaves the earth.

Luke 23:46 AMP
โAnd Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, โFather, into Your hands I commit My spirit!โ Having said this, He breathed His last.โ
Here, Jesus is willingly giving up His soul into the Father’s hands, indicating that He was about to die ” and that God had accepted His sacrifice.
He “offered up Himself unblemished to God” (Hebrews 9:14).
This statement represents Jesusโ complete surrender to Godโs will and His final act of trust as He passes away.

We adore You, our Lord Jesus Christ, and we praise You, because by Your Holy Cross
You, Lord have redeemed the world, and we thank You!
Jesus, I grieve that the torture and sorrow You endured on the cross were necessary to save humanity. Thank You!
Because You didn’t want us enslaved to fear, anxiety, or sin-You sacrificed Yourself so that Love could win.
It’s Love that hung upon the cross and gave up everything to rescue us. “It is finished” was a cry of victory, because You defeated everything that held me in captivity.
Because of Your sacrifice, we can experience intimacy with You forever. Thank You.
Thank You! Help us to know You more, and to reach people with the hope we found in You.
In Jesus’ mighty Name, I have prayed. Amen
Have a blessed day
