If there is ever a time that we need biblical hope, it is now. Considering the world around us, where:
What is right is considered wrong
Uncertainties about the future is rampant
Wickedness abounds anywhere we look
Fear of what the new government will do, especially in the US
Selfishness is seen as self care by most
Things of God are mocked left and right
People are dealing with failing health, not know what to do.
There’s instability in how people live from day to day
Hopelessness is in the order for most people.
Depression and anxiety
Beloved, I submit to you that biblical HOPE is the antidote for what the world throws at us. Rest assured that God takes care of His own through Jesus Christ.
Biblical HOPE is defined as a confident expectation of what God has promised, and is based on trust in God’s faithfulness.
Hope, as it is used in the Bible for the distinctive experience of Christian hope, is always a confidence concerning the future.
It’s a confidence, not a finger-crossing wish. So that separates the Christian hope from most other uses of hope in the English language.
Colossians 1:27 says Christ in you the HOPE of glory.
JESUS IS OUR HOPE!
God [in His eternal plan] chose to make known to them how great for the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in and among you, the hope and guarantee of [realizing the] glory.”
Romans 5:5 says, “Hope does not put us to shame.”
It is rock-solid, sure.
You can be confident. That’s Christian hope, and it’s always future-oriented.
A key text would be Romans 8:24–25:
In this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” When we say that hope does not see what it hopes for, the reason it doesn’t see it is because it hasn’t happened yet. It’s future. “We wait for it with patience.” So that’s the distinctive mark of hope: it is always future-oriented and consists in a firm confidence of what we are hoping for — not just a wish.
Biblical hope is biblical faith in the future tense.
Hebrews 11:1 AMP declares “Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].”
Here are some characteristics of biblical hope:
Future-oriented
Biblical hope is always focused on the future, and is based on
a firm confidence in what is being hoped for.
Filled with assurance
Biblical hope is filled with certainty and trust, and is based on the belief that God has already promised what is being hoped for.
A reservoir of emotional strength
Hope can be seen as a reservoir of emotional strength that allows people to forgive instead of retaliating.
When we are faced with insurmountable we can cry out to our loving God who gives us hope through Jesus Christ.
Psalms 46:1-3 AMP tells us:
God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains be shaken and slip into the heart of the seas, Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains tremble at its roaring. Selah.”
When we put our trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. WE HAVE HOPE! He takes care of our future regardless of who rules the government or our circumstances.
NOW LET US PRAY
Holy God, thank You for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Our hope is in You, Jesus Christ. We believe Your Word and promises.
Help us not to fear the future, but trust in Your goodness to be our refuge in times of trouble.
In Jesus mighty name, I pray. Amen.
Have a blessed day
