Are we all children of God? Many think so. The reasons behind this belief are fair and loving. It promotes unity as a human species. If we remind ourselves that we are all children of God, brothers and sisters, then we have to reckon with the fact that when we sin against one another, we are sinning against someone in our family.
Another reason is possibly a misunderstanding of Biblical truths. We are all created in God’s image. Some would extrapolate from that fact to say that, because of this, we are children of God. But that doesn’t square with what the Bible says about us as human beings.
Ephesians 2:3 tells us that all humanity is in our sinful nature in our flesh. All people are flesh-obsessed creatures who are children of wrath—not children of God!
However, we can find the identity of children of God in the Word of God.
John 1:12 tells us “But to as many as did receive and welcome Him (Jesus Christ) He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name”
Also,
Galatians 3:26 tells us “For you [who are born-again have been reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified and] are all children of God [set apart for His purpose with full rights and privileges] through faith in Christ Jesus.”
The Bible is clear that those who, through faith, believe and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are truly Children of God.
If you have not done so, I encourage you to give your life to Jesus Christ, be baptized, and enjoy the privileges of being a child of The Most High God.
We will discuss the blessings and promises of being a child of God in the next devotional.
LET US PRAY
Father, I pray that You would lead each and every one of us into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, so we are truly children of God. It is not Your will that anyone should perish. In Jesus’ mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen
Have a blessed day
