Just now getting back to blogging, the last couple of months have been difficult for my family because of the sudden loss of my niece, Mrs Kehinde Babalola. Please keep her 3 year old twin boys Daniel and Samuel, her husband, her parents and siblings in your prayers. Thank you.
What enables us to walk in obedience?
Let’s face it: walking in obedience to the Word of God is not easy when we do it with our own efforts. I know in my carnal self, I want to do what pleases me rather than what pleases God. However, I have learned in 60 years on Earth that doing what pleases God is what’s best for me while doing what pleases me makes me vulnerable to the plans of Satan for my life. You might be thinking, “There is nothing wrong in doing what pleases me and fulfilling my desires, after all God did not create us as robots”. While I agree that God did not create us as puppets, God did give us instructions on how our hearts desires can be met.
How to make our desires happen.
God did not leave us hanging on how to do life successfully. In fact, He is very precise in His instructions on how to get the desires of our hearts.
Psalm 37:4 says “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” . The word delight means “to gain great pleasure, satisfaction, and happiness.” Taking delight in the Lord means that our hearts truly find peace and fulfillment in Him. This means we enjoy what pleases God, when that happens, His desires becomes our desires because we enjoy them and are excited by Him. Before we know it, God himself unleashes all the power of Heaven to fulfill our desires because they are aligned with His will. When our will is aligned to God’s, it is easy for us to obey Him.
Other scriptures to help us in fulfilling our desires:
1. Psalm 145:19: “He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.”
2. Matthew 6:33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things [the necessities of life] will be given to you as well.”
3. John 14:15-17: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
How do we get our carnal selves to delight in the Lord
1. Submit yourself to God in prayer by faith.
Pray to God and ask Him to help you to obey Him. Ask him to guide you into obedience to Him.
2. Get to know Him through His Word
God has and will continually reveal Himself through His Word, the Bible. Cultivate a daily habit of reading the Bible. As you read the Bible, God will reveal Himself and His character to you. To know God is to love Him. To love Him is to obey Him.
3. Trust Him to keep His Word
God is faithful to keep ALL His promises. Trust is like a muscle: the more you trust Him, the more you experience His faithfulness, the more your faith and trust in Him grows.
